Pioneer Communications Awarded Grant Funds for Fiber Expansion in Rural Grant County

Ulysses, KS – July 23, 2024 – Pioneer Communications is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the Kansas Office of Broadband Development’s latest round of Broadband Acceleration Grants. Governor Laura Kelly recently announced $10 million was awarded to 12 Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including Pioneer Communications, to enhance high-speed broadband access across 14 rural Kansas counties. These awards are complemented by an additional $12.7 million in matching funds, leading to a significant investment of nearly $22.7 million.

Pioneer Communications will use the grant funds to expand fiber-optic infrastructure in rural Grant County, ensuring residents and businesses have access to reliable, high-speed internet. This expansion is crucial for driving innovation and supporting economic growth in the area.

Pioneer Communications was awarded $514,751 and will match this amount with an additional $514,751. These funds will help service 50 rural locations, including large oil and gas and manufacturing facilities, with the project set to be completed within 18 months. Grant County and Grant County Economic Development assisted in securing the grant by co-investing in the project. Pioneer Communications has deployed over 3,000 miles of fiber to more than 10,000 homes and businesses in southwest Kansas.
